Mr. Bush speaks again and bad things always happen....

Mr. Bush has spoken again. “Bring ‘em on”. “Mission Accomplished”. “Greeted as Liberators”. “The insurgency is in it’s last throes”. Mr. Bush is channeling through Petraeus a general with “presidential ambitions who cooks the books in a report to Congress, allowing a delusional President to claim success in a conflict that continues to deteriorate“.
Are we winning? If America was winning, Mr. Bush would not have to fly to Iraq under cover of darkness. I would not be asking the question. The question we should be asking is whether the cost is worth what we stand to gain. 3,800 dead Americans and more than 20,000 forever wounded.
Journalist Max Blumenthal interviewed a group of Young Republicans. All agreed we should be fighting “them” there and not here. But all had some excuse when asked if they would go “there” and engage the fight. One young lady could not support John McCain because he was opposed to “torture of fellow human beings” to get information. I have to wonder how torture and Jesus all fit under the same roof?
How many American lives will it take to achieve the Republican goal of retreat with honor? How many Mr. Corker?

Ben Stein and Larry Craig

Birds of a feather flock together.

Republicans and sympathizers miss the point on Larry Craig. Republicans (Larry included) have held out as the moral compass of the country. Simply to be Democrat was to lack any moral certitude! There were complaints from the public about person like Mr. Craig. Did the Republican compass throw Larry under the bus? Absolutely! And now we have Mark Foley. David Vitter and Larry Craig! Not to mention the good Republican compasses thrown out of Congress. I won't mention any names, google Republican Crooks and you will get a basket full.

Ben, you strike me as an intelligent fellow. Use your noggin for something other than a hat rack.

Fred Says Osama not important

FredT says that catching Osama is not important. We all know what Mr. Bush thinks(well perhaps "thinks" is too strong a word). Fred, Fred, Fred. I live in Tennessee and am not surprised by what mr. thompson said. Mr. Thompson should not give up his day job.

Mr. bin Laden is the mastermind behind the 9/11 attack on this country. Mr. bin Laden is responsible for more than 3,000 American Lives and Mr. Thompson says that killing mr. bin Laden in no longer important.

The family members of the victims of 9/11 however, might differ with the opinion of FredT.

If we were winning in Iraq, I would not have to ask the question "Are we winning in Iraq". We would not be having the debate about whether or not the strategy is working. The question we should be asking is "whether the cost is worth the gain"?

Fred Thompson-Good Republican Christian?

I't almost certain that Fred is a Christian Now. Recently had a Republican Christian Conversion. The Republicans have David Witter, Larry Craig, Mark Foley, etc. etc and Fred.

And, are you surprised that FredT supporters don't think the fact that FredT does not go to church is not a big deal and not important? FredT does not think that capturing or killing Osama bin Laden is important! I will bet my last lottery dollar that FredT starts going to church on a regular basis and religion starts flowing from his lips daily. A conversion?

Lakoda The Dog

Ronald Reagan, former Hollywood cowboy

"…we did not appreciate fully the depth of the hatred and complexity of the problems that made the Middle East such a jungle…In the weeks immediately after the bombing, I believed the last thing we should do was turn tail and leave…yet, the irrationality of Middle Eastern politics forced us to rethink our policy there."

-Ronald Reagan, former Hollywood cowboy

The mud hole in Iraq continues. 3,601 Americans have now lost their lives and since “Mission Accomplished“, 3,462.
Is there anything worse than having congress micromanage the mess in Iraq? Yes, having Mr. Bush mismanage the mess in Iraq! Well don’t worry Mr. Bush, the flag draped coffin returning from Iraq is not a fetus or stem cell.

It is said that if we leave without victory, we dishonor those who have fallen. Or, more Americans must die so we don’t look like such fools to history. Supporters of the Iraqi mud hole tell us of the dangers and chaos of leaving Iraq, but isn't it quite possible that these dangers are simply a consequence of having gone into Iraq in the first place, rather than a consequence of leaving?

Good for you Ron Paul, conviction and integrity from a Republican.

To day is July 4th. I have spent the day reading the Declaration of Independence. 1,320 words. Drafted by Thomas Jefferson between June 11 and June 28, 1776. I found some passages interesting.

..."to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God "

..."that they are endowed by their Creator "

..."deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed"

..."it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government"

...'To prove this, let Facts be submitted to a candid world."

..."We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms"

..."A Prince whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people."

Scooter Libby is not the criminal. If we focus on him, we lose sight of the true criminals. George W. Bush and Dick Cheney. The real crime was not committed by Scooter, but by mr. bush and mr. cheney. Hitler was criminal, Saddam was a criminal and mr. bush is a criminal.

Ann Colter. how can any human being be as void of humanity and decency as Ann Colter? Whenever I look at Ann, I see Satan in all his glory. I have to wonder where she fits with the religious right?

Family values? For that matter, any values!

How can the religious right align with the thugs of the Republican party? The Jesus I know would never be a republican?

The biggest bloc for support of Mr. Bush and the war in Iraq is the religious right. I simply don't understand how a true, real christian can support such a miscarriage of justice? The average american voter I guess. Most average american voters have to come from the religious right. no critical processing of information! Acceptance of anything thet the republicans feed them.

I hope that the republicans heading into 2008 will dig deep into their collective sense of what it is to be american. If any republican reading this will just for one moment be critical and think, for just one second, stop and think. If you are going to put a crook in the white house, at a minimum, please make the crook a competent crook.

How did Mr. Bush Screw up so badly?

If you have ever seen the movie The Godfather part 2, you will recall the scene where Don Michael Corleone, just arrived in Cuba, is on his way to meet with Hyman Roth.

As Michael's car drives through the crowded streets, they are stopped in traffic as police search and arrest rebels. Johnny Ola notes: "Just some lousy bandits. The police are cleaning them up." One Spanish guerrilla rebel runs across the street, shouts: "Viva Fidel!", pushes an official into a parked car, and suicidally blows them up with a fiery, smoky grenade explosion.

A birthday cake with a lit sparkler on top and a decorative picture of Cuba is wheeled along on a serving cart on the open-air terrace of the Roth-owned Capri Hotel. Hyman Roth, speaking like a generous mentor to his business associates, wishes them all well.

"A rebel was being arrested by the military police", observes Michael Corleone "and rather than be taken alive, he exploded a grenade he had hidden in his jacket. He killed himself and he took a captain of the command with him...it occurred to me the soldiers are paid to fight, the rebels aren't".

"What does that tell you", inquires Roth.

"That they can win", replies Michael.

In 1777, General William Howe marched his army of British Redcoats into Philadelphia, the seat of the Revolutionary government. The Continental Congress abandoned the city. Howe finally outmaneuvered Washington and marched into Philadelphia unopposed and it appeared the American Revolutionary War was over. At least to the English. Washington and his army encamped at Valley Forge in December 1777.

Howe had shown the hitherto unconvinced British population that a military solution to the American colonial uprising might be possible. American revolutionary leaders were not, however, about to give up the fight. And as for Howe’s occupation of Philadelphia, Benjamin Franklin described it another way: “Howe has not captured Philadelphia. Philadelphia has captured Howe.”

Howe was in Philadelphia, but what was he to do next if the revolutionaries continued to fight? And fight is exactly what the Americans did. The revolutionaries might not win by pitched battle, but time was on their side. They were fighting for their own homeland, on their own soil. It was a classic insurgent scenario, to be replayed many times in the following centuries.

The Revolutionary War dragged on another five years, but the result was total victory for the uprising.

I watched 5 minutes or so of Pastor Rod this morning and it set me thinking. As he vented his christian anger on first one thing and then another, Darwin, New Age philosophy, Karl Marx, all the World Religions, and all humans who don't see the world through his absolute certainty of rightness.

I wonder where humanity would be if we still practiced medicine as practiced 2,000 years ago, 1,000 years ago. The next time you go to the doctor, be thankful that medicine did not put science on hold. Your doctor no longer uses blood letting or leaches. Science has increased the life expectancy more than 30 years in just the past 100 years.

Science-not religion!

Darwin's theory of evolution is just that, a theory. Science may one day prove it wrong or right as the case may be. Or as we have more knowledge, make adjustments to the theory.

And so we have the major difference in science and christian religion. Science can prove it's theories wrong, or make adjustments as new information is known. Religion is absolute and can't be adjusted or proven wrong, no matter how wrong.

Imagine sending a man to the moon if we still used the science of 2,000 years ago. Science and religion are often at odds. Some of the religious people I know think that satan is a flesh and blood entity living somewhere on the planet.

But where?

I know that one day I will face an essential truth of my existence on this small orb in space. What I don't know is what that essential truth is?
