Mickey Edwards in his new book
Mickey Edwards in his new book, Reclaiming Conservatism, describes the
Constitution as the "apotheosis of political liberalism" and it is reverence
for this document that led to the rise of the modern American conservative
movement. The goal of conservatives is to "conserve the constitution", the
most perfect example of political liberalism. The book is about how
"conservatives moved from the love of freedom to wiretaps, secret
prisons.and a presidency and bureaucracy that places itself above the law".
Calendar makers are already compiling a list of McBushisms. McCain had a
senior moment when he claimed to be a "proud conservative, liberal
Republican". Is it dementia that prompts the "common knowledge and has been
reported in the media that al-Qaeda is going back into Iran and receiving
training and are coming back into Iraq from Iran, that's well known. And it's
unfortunate." statement? Well John, just ask Joe, 'cause it ain't so. Iran
is Shia and Al-Qaeda is made up of hardcore Sunni. Make sense, John Boy?
We are on the Iraqi interstate highway headed in the wrong direction. The
nearest off ramp that will take us out of danger and save lives is visible
and within reach. Will we take it?

Make the lie big, make it simple
Make the lie big, make it simple, keep saying it, and eventually they will believe it.

John McCain, in a recent interview, said that when the troops return from Iraq is not important. He also said "The issue of economics is not something I've understood as well as I should." After 8 years of W Bush's incompetence, can we afford John McCain's? Working Americans voted against their self-interest to put Mr. Bush in the Presidency, will they do the same for Mr. McCain?
In 2000, the Republicans were handed control of the Presidency, the House of Representatives, the Senate and the Supreme Court. The results of that control has been a disastrous war in Iraq costing the soul of this country, 4,000 American lives and more than 30,000 wounded Americans. A barrel of oil is $140 and gasoline $4 a gallon. Unemployment is 5.5%, the highest in over 20 years. A surplus built by Democrats has been squandered and we now have a $400 billion deficit. Oil companies are raking in record profits.
Will voters be motivated by emotion substituted for thought, fear, ignorance or propaganda? Will working Americans vote their self interest come November, or be fooled again?

Mr. Bush speaks again and bad things always happen....
Mr. Bush has spoken again. “Bring ‘em on”. “Mission Accomplished”. “Greeted as Liberators”. “The insurgency is in it’s last throes”. Mr. Bush is channeling through Petraeus a general with “presidential ambitions who cooks the books in a report to Congress, allowing a delusional President to claim success in a conflict that continues to deteriorate“.
Are we winning? If America was winning, Mr. Bush would not have to fly to Iraq under cover of darkness. I would not be asking the question. The question we should be asking is whether the cost is worth what we stand to gain. 3,800 dead Americans and more than 20,000 forever wounded.
Journalist Max Blumenthal interviewed a group of Young Republicans. All agreed we should be fighting “them” there and not here. But all had some excuse when asked if they would go “there” and engage the fight. One young lady could not support John McCain because he was opposed to “torture of fellow human beings” to get information. I have to wonder how torture and Jesus all fit under the same roof?
How many American lives will it take to achieve the Republican goal of retreat with honor? How many Mr. Corker?

Ben Stein and Larry Craig
Birds of a feather flock together.
Republicans and sympathizers miss the point on Larry Craig. Republicans (Larry included) have held out as the moral compass of the country. Simply to be Democrat was to lack any moral certitude! There were complaints from the public about person like Mr. Craig. Did the Republican compass throw Larry under the bus? Absolutely! And now we have Mark Foley. David Vitter and Larry Craig! Not to mention the good Republican compasses thrown out of Congress. I won't mention any names, google Republican Crooks and you will get a basket full.
Ben, you strike me as an intelligent fellow. Use your noggin for something other than a hat rack.

Fred Says Osama not important
FredT says that catching Osama is not important. We all know what Mr. Bush thinks(well perhaps "thinks" is too strong a word). Fred, Fred, Fred. I live in Tennessee and am not surprised by what mr. thompson said. Mr. Thompson should not give up his day job.
Mr. bin Laden is the mastermind behind the 9/11 attack on this country. Mr. bin Laden is responsible for more than 3,000 American Lives and Mr. Thompson says that killing mr. bin Laden in no longer important.
The family members of the victims of 9/11 however, might differ with the opinion of FredT.
If we were winning in Iraq, I would not have to ask the question "Are we winning in Iraq". We would not be having the debate about whether or not the strategy is working. The question we should be asking is "whether the cost is worth the gain"?

Fred Thompson-Good Republican Christian?
I't almost certain that Fred is a Christian Now. Recently had a Republican Christian Conversion. The Republicans have David Witter, Larry Craig, Mark Foley, etc. etc and Fred.
And, are you surprised that FredT supporters don't think the fact that FredT does not go to church is not a big deal and not important? FredT does not think that capturing or killing Osama bin Laden is important! I will bet my last lottery dollar that FredT starts going to church on a regular basis and religion starts flowing from his lips daily. A conversion?

Ronald Reagan, former Hollywood cowboy
-Ronald Reagan, former Hollywood cowboy
The mud hole in Iraq continues. 3,601 Americans have now lost their lives and since “Mission Accomplished“, 3,462.
Is there anything worse than having congress micromanage the mess in Iraq? Yes, having Mr. Bush mismanage the mess in Iraq! Well don’t worry Mr. Bush, the flag draped coffin returning from Iraq is not a fetus or stem cell.
It is said that if we leave without victory, we dishonor those who have fallen. Or, more Americans must die so we don’t look like such fools to history. Supporters of the Iraqi mud hole tell us of the dangers and chaos of leaving Iraq, but isn't it quite possible that these dangers are simply a consequence of having gone into Iraq in the first place, rather than a consequence of leaving?
Good for you Ron Paul, conviction and integrity from a Republican.
